How to Install an Antivirus Software on Your New Laptop
One of the most essential programs on any computer is antivirus applications which help protect your system against viruses, spyware, malware and other malicious threats. If you’ve purchased a new laptop recently and want to install an antivirus on it, you could read our tutorial to help you through the process.
Each day, hundreds and thousands of new viruses, malware and spyware are built and released across the Internet.
These threats could potentially jeopardize photos, videos, documents, and other valuable files and information on your computer or laptop. One of the best methods to be protected against these threats is equipping your laptop with the best antivirus on the market.
Let’s start the protection process for your newly bought laptop or computer system which runs a version of Windows 10, Window 8.1, Windows 7 or Windows XP.
Installing the software
Here are the required steps which you could follow to install an antivirus application on your laptop:
- In case you have a DVD or CD for the antivirus, you could insert it into the disc drive of your computer. Often, the installation process runs automatically without you executing any file.
- On the other hand, if you’re one of those people who downloaded a virus protection program from the Internet, try to locate that file on your system. Once you found it (it could have names like install.exe, setup.exe, etc.) launch the installer by double-clicking it.
- You’ll be guided through the process of the installation, one step at a time. Most steps could be gone through intuitively with no difficulty. Just beware of the additional programs which sometimes are bundled with the main antivirus software. Look out for them and uncheck any boxes related to installing them along with the main software, if you don’t want so, of course.
- Once the installation is finished, you could close the window and launch the software on your laptop. Also, remove any DVD or CD from your disc drive, if you used any for the installation.
As you could see above, it’s really easy to install a virus protection software on the laptop or computer.
But remember that in order for this program to run properly, could need to do other necessary tasks as well, which we’ll discuss in the following sections.
Updating the software
Most times, when you download or buy a new antivirus program, the chances are that its database of spyware and virus definitions isn’t up to date. This means that it isn’t able to identify the latest threats to your computer if it faces one.
That’s why you have to update your antivirus application as regularly as possible, especially for the first time after you installed the software on your system.
Most antivirus programs, similar to many other trustworthy software, are able to check out for and download the latest updates automatically. But if it’s not the case for your newly installed software, you could manually check out for updates through the menu of the application.
Also, be sure to enable the automatic updates in the software, so that the next time a new update comes and you forget to update your antivirus manually, the software could do its job automatically.
