How to Install Minecraft Maps (Mac, PC, Xbox, PS4, Android, iOS)
Minecraft maps provide a unique gaming experience, offering players a custom world full of possibilities. Be it an enthralling role playing adventure, steeped in a dynamic narrative, or a boggling puzzle map, these worlds have so many opportunities to tantalize the gamer and test their intellect.
There are several types of Minecraft maps including survival maps, puzzle maps, adventure maps, exploration maps and so on.
You could find many resources on the web which allow you to download any type of map you like.
Of course, you’d be able to first learn about each map and then decide if it’s something you’d want to install on your Minecraft game.
Now, let’s see how you could install maps on Minecraft, no matter what platform you play the game on.
Install a Minecraft map on PC/Mac
For PC and Mac users, downloading and installing a Minecraft map is as easy as downloading it from a website and then dragging it into your Minecraft save folder. These can either be installed as a .zip file or as a World Save.
When downloading a zip file, you’ll need to extract the contents into a folder before dragging it into the Minecraft saves folder. For world saves, you can simply drag the entire file into the correct folder.
If you’re having trouble locating where the folder is for either a Mac or PC, here’s a quick guide to help you out.
Where is the Minecraft Saves folder in Mac and PC
The Minecraft Saves folder is the place where all your progress and worlds are stored on the computer. It’s much easier to back up your Minecraft worlds from the folder, so it’s important to keep it handy.
Locating the Minecraft Saves folder on Mac
- Open Finder.
- Click on the Go menu.
- Select Go to Folder.
- Enter the following in the text box: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves
- Click Go.
Your saves folder should now appear in the window on your screen.
Locating the Minecraft Saves folder on PC
- Open File Explorer.
- Enter %appdata% into the directory path.
- Navigate to the following folder: .minecraft\saves
- Your saves folder should now appear in the window on your screen.
Once you’ve dragged the file into the saves folder, you can load the map with the Minecraft launcher. Make sure to set the correct version and then select the new map from the list of available worlds.
Xbox
If you’re playing on an Xbox console, things are a bit more complicated.
To install a Minecraft map on Xbox, you’ll need to download the world save file to a USB stick, as well as the program Horizon.
This free tool is used to modify Minecraft save files on PC, and its Xbox edition should also be installed. The Xbox edition is much easier to use, so make sure you get it.
Once you’ve downloaded the save file and Horizon, connect your Xbox to your PC and then transfer the save file to your Xbox’s hard drive.
Now launch Horizon and run the program. You’ll be able to find the save files that you transferred in a folder named “HorizonXbox”.
From here, you can select and open the save file, and then extract it onto a USB stick. Once you’ve done that, plug the USB stick into your Xbox and open the Minecraft save list. You should now be able to find the map in the list of available worlds.
PlayStation
Installing a Minecraft map on a PlayStation 4 is very similar to doing it on Xbox. To start, you’ll need to download the world save file to a USB stick and install Horizon for PlayStation on your PC. Once you’ve done that, connect your PlayStation to your PC and transfer the save file to the PlayStation’s hard drive.
Now launch Horizon and run the program. You’ll be able to find the save files you transferred in a folder named “HorizonPS4”.
From here, you can select and open the save file, and then extract it onto a USB stick. Once you’ve done that, plug the USB stick into the PlayStation and open the Minecraft save list. You should now be able to find the map in the list of available worlds.
Android and iOS
Installing a Minecraft map on an Android or iOS device is done through the official Minecraft Pocket Edition app.
To do this, simply follow these steps:
- Download the world save file to your device.
- Then load it using the app.
- To open the map, tap on the “Create New World” button, then tap the folder icon.
- Select the save file from the list and then tap “Import”.
The map should now appear in the list of available worlds.
Conclusion
Installing a Minecraft map is usually a very simple process, regardless of what platform you’re playing on. As long as you have the right tools and know-how, you should have no problem getting any map installed on your device.
